GlobeNet’s Low Latency Network Serves Global Telecommunications Carriers and Internet Service Providers with High Performance Capacity
BOCA RATON, FL – August 6, 2013 – GlobeNet , an international wholesale provider of submarine capacity, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brazilian full-service telecoms provider – Oi, celebrates 10 years of delivering world-class, high performance International data communication services to global carriers and service providers. As an in-region expert throughout the Americas including managing and operating networks reaching Brazil, Bermuda, Colombia, the United States, and Venezuela, GlobeNet offers high capacity transport and IP services through its ring-protected and diverse subsea and terrestrial networks. GlobeNet’s network connectivity between cable landing stations and terrestrial International points of presence (iPoPs) utilize the latest in Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM), SDH and Carrier Ethernet technologies. This advanced combination provides added resilience and ease of service provisioning, making GlobeNet the go-to provider in the markets it serves.
GlobeNet’s expansive 22,500 kilometer network started as a subsea cable system built by 360 Networks and completed in 2002. The network was acquired by Brasil Telecom on June 10th , 2003 and became the first network in its class in the Atlantic region to operate cash flow and EBITDA positive by the end of 2004. Brazil’s two largest national carriers – Telemar and Brasil Telecom – merged in 2009 to form Oi S.A., further adding terrestrial network capillarity, regional expertise, expanded footprints and telecom capabilities throughout Brazil. With a long history of deploying major upgrades to ensure optimum capacity for its customers, GlobeNet launched a series of major network expansions and technology adoption projects over this past decade.
In 2012, GlobeNet announced the extension of its award-winning subsea network to Colombia. The new express route addresses increased demand for high capacity, while also providing the lowest latency route from Colombia to Brazil. The new route also complements GlobeNet’s existing ring-protected International capacity service to Colombia, and will be fully operational in Q4 2013.
To keep up with explosive demand for high-speed broadband service requirements, in 2013 the company also completed the replacement of its Segment 5 subsea cable linking Bermuda to the United States. This new subsea cable segment has a design capacity of 30 Tb/s. GlobeNet’s total network lit capacity today is over 1.2 Tb/s on all network segments.
“With industry-leading services and world-class in-region support, GlobeNet has served the carrier and service provider marketplaces remarkably well,” states Erick W. Contag , Chief Operating Officer of GlobeNet. “By ensuring we are at the forefront of strategic network planning and deployments, we are able to keep up with the industry’s ever-changing telecom and Internet needs and requirements.
